Does cheapest mean worst network coverage?
Usually that's the fear, and in the Philippines it's half right, just not in the way you'd expect. The cheap plans and the expensive plans mostly run on the same two networks, Smart and Globe. What varies isn't quality-for-price; it's which network you're locked to. Airalo (Smart only), Nomad and Holafly (Globe only), and Ubigi (DITO plus Smart) each tie you to one side of a country where neither side wins everywhere.

- Airalo's short windows. The $4.00 1 GB plan lasts 3 days, and the 3 GB tops out at 7 days. On a 10-day trip, that "cheap" plan expires with data unused and you're buying again.
- 7-day 10 GB plans. Ubigi's $14.00 / 10 GB looks like it beats Travelsim Asia's $14.99, until you see it lasts 7 days, not 30. Fine for a short heavy trip, wrong for two weeks.
- Unlimited daily caps. Airalo's $11.50 / 3-day unlimited throttles after a daily allowance. Cheap headline, capped reality. Only Holafly sells uncapped unlimited, from $11.90 / 3 days.
- The rebuy penalty. Running out mid-trip and panic-buying a second eSIM is the most expensive way to travel. A provider with easy top-ups (Travelsim Asia does it through a web portal, no login) makes the small plan a safe bet instead of a gamble.

Every provider in this comparison except one requires you to install their app and create an account before you can use the eSIM. Travelsim Asia is the exception: the eSIM arrives by email, installs from a QR code or tap-to-install link, and tops up through a web portal.
