Vietnam eSIM guides: choose a plan for your route

Hanoi to Hoi An, a few days in Ho Chi Minh City, or a journey north to Ha Giang: start with where you are going. These five guides bring together network choices, current prices and the steps to get connected.

  • Networks Viettel, MobiFone and Vinaphone are included in our plans
  • A week of travel $9.50 buys 5 GB with a month to use it
  • Heading north Check your route and prepare offline maps for Ha Giang

Which networks should you look for in Vietnam?

Our Vietnam plans include Viettel, MobiFone and Vinaphone. Airalo and Ubigi list Vinaphone through VNPT; Nomad lists MobiFone, Vinaphone and Vietnamobile. For a city-focused trip, compare price and validity alongside those names. If Ha Giang or other remote stops are part of your route, look more closely at coverage before choosing.

What does a Vietnam eSIM cost?

Our 5 GB/30-day plan costs $9.50, the lowest 5 GB price in this six-provider comparison. At 10 GB, Ubigi’s $12.90/30-day plan costs $5.09 less than ours, but lists Vinaphone rather than our three networks. For a short visit with light use, Saily’s 1 GB/7-day plan is $3.99, one dollar below ours.

What should you plan for on the Ha Giang Loop?

For Ha Giang, pay attention to the network as well as the price. Our route guide recommends including Viettel, which is available on our Vietnam eSIM alongside MobiFone and Vinaphone. Before heading into the mountains, download your route and save accommodation contacts so you can find them without mobile data.

Including Viettel is not a promise of uninterrupted coverage on mountain roads. Our Ha Giang guide explains network selection and preparing your phone before you set off.

How much data should you take to Vietnam?

Use 5 GB for a week or 10 GB for two weeks as a starting estimate for maps, ride bookings, messaging and light photo sharing. Save video and large backups for Wi-Fi. A trip with regular video calls or laptop work needs more, so check consumption during the first few days and adjust to your own habits.

5 GB across 7 daysAbout 700 MB a day
10 GB across 14 daysAbout 700 MB a day
20 GB across 14 daysAbout 1.4 GB a day

These are allowance budgets, not findings from customer usage research. For Ha Giang plus other Vietnam stops, choose data and validity for the whole itinerary.

Can you add data during your Vietnam trip?

Yes. Our Vietnam packs can be topped up through the web portal linked in your purchase email. You keep the installed eSIM and add data when you need it. The largest starting pack is 20 GB, but you can continue using the same eSIM beyond that allowance with top-ups.

You can also check your remaining data in the portal. Choose a starting allowance that fits your plans, then review usage before a longer journey or a day of hotspot work.

How do you get online when you arrive in Vietnam?

Buy for your trip length, then use the email instructions to install on an unlocked, eSIM-compatible phone while you have Wi-Fi. When you land at Noi Bai, Tan Son Nhat or Da Nang, enable the Vietnam eSIM, select it for mobile data and turn its data roaming on. You can leave your home SIM installed for your existing number.

Our eSIM has mobile data but no Vietnamese phone number or SMS. Avoid home-line data charges by disabling its roaming and automatic data switching; your home provider’s call and text charges still apply.
