Hong Kong eSIM guides: compare plans and prepare your phone

Choose an allowance for your Hong Kong stay, check the networks included and get connected before your first trip into the city. If Macau or Shenzhen is next, check that part of the itinerary separately.

  • Networks csl + SmarTone, with 5G supported
  • Short stay 3 GB costs $4.99; 5 GB costs $8.99
  • Across the border Macau and mainland China need their own listed coverage

Which Hong Kong networks does your eSIM include?

Travelsim Asia includes csl and SmarTone, with 5G support. Ubigi lists SmarTone; Airalo and Saily list HKT, the group behind csl. Nomad lists CMCC HK, csl and 1O1O. Those names are useful for comparing plans, but csl and 1O1O are both HKT brands, so counting names alone can overstate how many independent operators a plan includes.

Your connection still depends on the building, station or outdoor location where you use it. More listed networks do not establish a guaranteed speed or signal advantage.

How much data is enough for a Hong Kong trip?

For a short stay, start around 3 GB for maps, messages and bookings. A 5 GB allowance is a reasonable starting point for five to seven days with some photo sharing, using Wi-Fi for streaming and backups. Plan for more if you expect video calls, frequent uploads or a laptop hotspot.

This is a trip budget, not a measured average for Hong Kong travellers. Five gigabytes over seven days gives you roughly 700 MB a day; your own app use decides how far that goes.

What happens if you need more data in Hong Kong?

Add data from the portal in your Travelsim Asia purchase email and carry on with the eSIM already installed. All our Hong Kong packs support top-ups, so you do not need to predict the whole trip perfectly before buying. For a longer stay or regular laptop use, choose a larger starting pack and check your balance as you go.

If you compare an unlimited alternative, check its high-speed allowance and hotspot terms. Fixed packs with top-ups remain an option for heavier use.

Does our Hong Kong eSIM include Macau or mainland China?

No. This pack is for Hong Kong, including Hong Kong Island, Kowloon, the New Territories and outlying islands. For a ferry trip to Macau or a visit to Shenzhen, arrange a separate destination pack or a regional plan that explicitly includes those places before you cross.

A Hong Kong network name is not evidence of coverage across the border. Check the destinations listed for the exact plan; a Hong Kong top-up adds data to the same coverage area.

How do you install and use the eSIM in Hong Kong?

Once you have checked your phone’s eSIM support and carrier lock, install using the instructions emailed with your pack. Use Wi-Fi for this step. On arrival in Hong Kong, choose the new line for mobile data and switch its data roaming on. The setup guide covers iPhone and Android, plus what to check if you land without a connection.

Keep home-line data roaming off and prevent automatic switching between data lines. Our pack provides internet access without a Hong Kong phone number; use your existing messaging apps for online calls and messages.
